10 ways to grow in your faith

  1. Pray throughout the day. I believe that prayer is such an important part of our daily life. Without prayer you might feel distant from God. I love to pray. Prayer is so powerful. I feel so much at ease and peace comes over me as I pray. When you are mad, pray. When you are aggravated, pray. When you are sad, pray. When you are happy, pray. Pray throughout all seasons of life. Prayer is an example of how we can connect with God on a personal level. Take time out of your day and talk to him.

  2. Serve Others. Give back to others. This could simply mean smiling at someone at work or holding the door open for a stranger. Send someone on your mind or a friend you haven't spoke to awhile a text and check on them. You don't have to do anything drastic although that would be great but even the smallest acts can make the most impact.

  3. Read the Bible or a devotional. To grow with Jesus you have to be connected to his word. To develop a stronger relationship with the Lord we need to better understand. You can get the Bible app on your phone and do a devotional on there. You could read one verse a day or meet with a friend to spend time diving deeper into his word. Often times, someone may be able to help you better understand.

  4. Be positive, humble, and grateful. If we are negative all the time then we are missing God's goodness. Be positive, we have so many things to be grateful for. Every single day is a gift from God. We have a purpose on this earth for God's plan for us. I don't believe that we should waste that time being negative. Something that can help you be more grateful is think of four things you are thankful for each day. You will soon realize how blessed you are.

  5. Praise God when life is good and bad. "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice."- Philippians 4:4. Sometimes it may be hard for us praise God when things don't go how we planned or wanted them to. That is the beauty of life. Things don't always work out how we imagined them to be but God's plan is greater than we could ever imagined. We don't always know what his plan is but we just have to trust him and believe. No matter the outcome of a game, test, day, whatever it is God is still good. Praise God on the bad days just as much or more than you do on the good ones.

  6. Give it all to God. I have so much anxiety and thoughts consuming my head all the time. I know that the bad thoughts are not from God. They are from the devil trying to get me. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with everything that I have to do and I start overthinking. Everyday at the end of the day we need to give all of our worries, doubts, fears, thoughts, and anxiety to God. He can heal us and he will renew our strength. I am still working on this but it helps if you just remember these things that aren't good aren't from the Lord.

  7. Have peace. Peace comes from God and trusting him. Peace should not come from circumstances. Focus on God and not the things around you or earthly things.

  8. Put eternal things above earthly things. God is forever but this world is not. Why would we consume our lives full of things that don't glorify the Lord. God does not like to see you getting blackout at parties. Getting "wasted" does not change anything or take your pain away. God can take your pain away and heal you. Focus on things that glorify the Lord. God does not like you choosing those things over spending time with him.

  9. Kindness. If someone is having a hard time you know, reach out to them. Be nicer than you normally would. Sometimes people need you to pick them up and be there when they need it.

  10. Be faithful. As if any relationship, be faithful to God as you would your spouse or partner. Don't put anything above God. Be loyal to God.
